Hybrid Engineer

Context:

Objectives:

The Hybrid Engineer [juwi is looking for an individual experienced in the solar/wind industry to] will be responsible for the engineering and development (technical) of our pipeline of large-scale hybrid projects. The primary focus will be on projects in Africa for mine sites and other off-grid energy users, with a secondary function being the collaboration and support for international projects with other juwi subsidiaries. The individual will also have the opportunity to obtain knowledge from our previously completed projects and draw on juwi's extensive international experience in the market.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The key roles for the hybrid engineer will be a mixture of project development / sales, as well as project delivery, as outlined below:

 

Project Development:

  • Develop and manage the early engineering process for hybrid projects (~5MWp to ~100MWp + Batteries)
  • Client interface on engineering topics in project development phase
  • Undertake system modelling (HOMER, internal tools), and manage external system modelling (power system modelling)
  • Develop system functional descriptions for the proposed operation of the projects
  • Manage the completion of client deliverables from internal engineering and procurement resources
  • Technical assessment of self-developed project requirements
  • Support the procurement team with the scoping, tendering and assessment of subcontractor and vendor scope
  • Develop technical offering for bids/proposals
  • Manage site technical assessments and feasibility studies
  • Utilise multiple internal and external resources to achieve the clients development requirements
  • Support Head of Development with cost calculation and bill of quantity development

 

Project Delivery:

  • Develop site specific technical specification for key solar/wind hybrid equipment and systems (battery systems and control systems)
  • Support the delivery team on integration and control system specific project engineering and design
  • Support international projects remotely with design assessments and recommendations

 

General:

  • Market research and product screening
  • Collaboration with international colleagues on solar/wind hybrid design and market progress
  • Research and development
  • Develop engineering reports from available project data
  • Review and improve juwi hybrid processes and documentation
  • Maintain understanding of South African Standards and industry technical requirements/guidelines relating to solar/wind hybrid systems

 

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Electrical/power system engineering degree (or similar).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in solar or wind hybrid engineering design and/or development.
  • Strong understanding of solar or wind hybrid power systems.
  • Ability to work within a local and international design team.
  • Strong understanding and skills of design programs/systems (CAD, Homer, PVSyst etc).
  • Strong understanding and skills of company tools (MS Office etc.).
  • Understanding of the relationship between technical and commercial project requirements.
  • Willing to travel as required within Africa and internationally on occasion.

Senior Legal Advisor

Title of position: Senior Legal Advisor

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Objectives:

As part of the Legal Team and under the direction of Head of Legal, you will work in conjunction with team members to handle all legal, commercial and contractual aspects relating to both the development and engineering, procurement and construction of renewable energy  projects in terms of advisement and strategy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating EPC (bespoke and standard forms) and O&M Contracts and Subcontracts
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating project sale agreements for the sale or acquisition of projects either by way of sale of shares or sale of rights
  • Provide legal support for Project Bid Submissions and Financial Close of Projects
  • Due diligence reviews of projects (both internal and external) for the purposes of bid, sale or acquisition
  • Advise and assist with tenders and bid submission (REIPPPP and others)
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating corporate documents
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Provide accurate, timely and relevant advice to juwi Employees on all matters that relate to juwi’s business

Qualifications, Experience

  • Senior Associate / Attorney level
  • Admitted Attorney with 5 years or more post articles experience in Corporate, Commercial and/or Construction Law, preferably in-house
  • LLB, with an LLM in commercial law is an advantage
  • MBA is an added advantage
  • Experience in Energy, Renewable Energy, Projects and Project Finance would be an advantage
  • Knowledge and understanding in contract and commercial management
  • Experience with and knowledge of REIPPP and energy regulation

SCADA ENGINEER

Title of position: SCADA ENGINEER

Objectives:

As SCADA Engineer you will be part of the juwi Engineering team and be responsible for all technical queries related to SCADA system in all phases of the project life cycle. This includes but is not limited to sales support, system design works but also providing support on site during the construction and commissioning phase.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all SCADA requirements of a PV, BESS and Wind power plant
  • Translating the contractual obligations into technical requirements and SCADA design
  • Compile specifications, scope of works, bill of materials and evaluate standards for SCADA systems
  • Approving datasheets related to the materials and components selected by subcontractors
  • Complete drafting of technical drawings such as wiring diagrams and SLD
  • Support the implementation of the SCADA system and associated equipment from kick-off to handover
  • Technical advisory and support to Project Development, Sales, Project Management, Project Purchasing & Logistics, Construction Management and Commissioning
  • Interaction and coordination with Consultants, Suppliers and Subcontractors to ensure compliant project execution
  • Ensuring contractual schedule and payment milestones are achieved, including preparation/ compilation of design packages
  • Support internal and external stakeholders during construction and commissioning. Supervise the suppliers & subcontractors in this process, ensuring the correct integration of all sensors and controls in the SCADA system

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Accredited degree as Engineer or Technician with focus on industrial controls or SCADA engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in Automation or Scada and Plant control
  • Demonstrated expertise with industrial instrumentation, automation, PLC’s, machine control, HMI,Met Station, Cloud camera, micro grid controller and communication protocols like IEC-101, IEC-104, IEC 61850, MODBUS,NTP, DNP and OPC
  • Demonstrated expertise with distributed network systems, VPN and common network interfaces
  • Previous experience in commission of SCADA systems for PV / BESS / Wind
  • Familiarity with the relevant IEC standards, SANS and regulations
