Field Assistant - Pofadder, Northern Cape

Objectives

As the Field Assistant, you will assist the Site Supervisor in ensuring that all maintenance and operational activities are carried out.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment
  • Assist with inspections
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs
  • Assist the Site Supervisor with general tasks pertaining to operations and maintenance
  • Attend to equipment failures on site, even outside of normal working hours  

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Relevant electrical experience
  • Interest and ability to further develop his technical knowledge
  • Able to communicate in English and Afrikaans, verbally and written
  • Prepared to work shifts/overtime when required
  • Physically fit and able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Be able to work within a team
  • Possess a valid driver's license. Ideally, have own vehicle.

Community Liaison Officer (Fixed term), Vryburg

Objectives

To act as a liaison and / communicator between the local communities and juwi Renewable Energies, the EPC Contractor.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advise prospective employees regarding the recruitment substantiating documentation required, namely:

    • A certified copy of the Green SA ID
    • A completed EEA1 declaration of racial category
    • Proof of Residence
    • Treat all enquiries as confidential and only make information available to authorized representatives of juwi or juwi sub-contractors

  • Assist any juwi sub-contractor with sourcing employees and/or municipal services
  • Represent juwi at any municipal meeting when required to do so
  • Act as juwi Liaison with the Mayor and ward Councilors when required
  • Report on the general conditions of employment in the Naledi Local Municipal community and surrounding areas
  • Make recommendations to the juwi subcontractors in securing appropriate persons from the local communities
  • Make recommendations to the juwi subcontractors in identifying appropriate sub-contractors from the local communities
  • Gather information during the construction period on the compliance of the subcontractors with their undertakings pertaining to job creation within the local communities. Report to juwi the employment of anybody that does not live locally
  • Report on the ease of sourcing labour from the local communities and the status of labour sourced by other projects, both Renewable Energy and any other big projects in the area
  • Support the Economic Development Manager in any other ancillary matters as and when required
  • Report to the Economic Development Manager, on a weekly basis in any reasonable manner or format (template) as required by him
  • Report immediately any instances of community dissatisfaction regarding the project to the Economic Development Manager, by ensuring that you do not:

    • Express any opinion regarding right or wrong to any juwi employee or community member
    • Choose any side
    • Represent or support any political ideology

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Relevant working experience
  • Good networking skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to communicate in English and at least one local language
  • Knowledge of the Renewable Energy Industry is advantageous

Construction Supervisor: Mounting Structure & Module Installation (Fixed term), Vryburg

Objectives

The Mounting Structure Construction Supervisor will be responsible for onsite supervision of mounting structure and module installation construction works on solar PV EPC projects in South Africa including full responsibility for technical, environmental and safety compliance; quality, schedule and integration control.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Construction/ Site Manager, the Construction Supervisor will work Project Purchasing & Logistics, System Design, Specialist Consultants, Suppliers, Subcontractors to ensure compliant project execution
  • Complete construction projects by planning, organizing, and controlling projects; completing quality inspections; supervising sub-contractors and staff
  • Accomplish construction human resource objectives by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counselling employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, adhering to policies and procedures
  • Implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying construction management system improvements and advise the Construction Site Manager
  • Accomplish construction project results by defining project purpose and scope; calculating resources required; establishing standards and protocols; allocating resources; scheduling and coordinating sub-contractors and staff(Quality personnel that reports to him/her); evaluating milestone assumptions and conclusions; resolving design problems; evaluating and implementing change orders via Construction Site Manager
  • Prevent fines and interruptions by complying with, and enforcing, codes
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Ensure all mounting structure, module installations and associated tests are in accordance with the applicable standards and code of practice
  • Report any deviations from the Scope of Work to the Construction Site Manager
  • Report any unsafe act/conditions to the Construction Site Manager
  • Report any quality concerns/defective work to the Construction Site Manager
  • Report any environmental concerns/contraventions to the Construction Site Manager
  • Responsible for inspection, supervision and reporting on construction activities in conformance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, procedures, quality requirements and safety standards in accordance with company procedures & processes, legislation, standards and industry best practise
  • Manage of supplier and subcontractor construction resources. Implement KPI’s, control and monitor schedule and quality performance against baselines, raise NCR’s through the Construction Site Manager and implement corrective action
  • Ensure full compliance with the QHSE regulations, legislation, standards, codes and requirements in South Africa
  • Determine resource (persons and equipment) levels to attain schedule milestones and ensure conformance with the construction plan
  • Ensure contractual schedule and payment milestones are achieved, including preparation/ compilation of data packs
  • Responsible for daily construction reports & records
  • Preparation and review of work procedures, QCP’s and ITP’s
  • Train unskilled resources to perform quality control
  • Responsible for inspection notifications and coordinating client inspections
  • Responsible for incoming material inspections

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Civil / Mechanical Engineering background
  • Minimum of 5 years construction supervision experience in Electrical infrastructure projects, 2 years of which gained managing utility scale solar PV plants
  • Good communication skills, able to resolve labour conflict
  • A proven track record in successfully completing construction on time, safely and compliant with technical & quality requirements and standards
  • Demonstrable experience of managing Subcontractors to stringent time and quality metrics
  • Conversant with construction management (control and monitoring) tools, MS Project, MS Office, etc.
  • Conversant with construction, labour, environmental and safety requirements and legislation
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans

Desirable attributes

  • Experience of working within the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme

Other

  • National and international travel may be required in line with business requirements
  • In addition to the duties mentioned above, the job holder is required to carry out other duties that are in essence part of his area of activity, according to his knowledge and abilities.
