Contract Administrator, Cape Town (Fixed Term)

Objectives

The Contract Administrator will be responsible for contract planning and administration of solar PV EPC projects in South Africa. The position is regarded as a skilled contract administration role, focussed on EPC & Subcontract administration. Reporting to the Project Manager(s), the Contract Administrator will support Supply Chain Manager(s), Project Controller(s), Engineer(s) and Construction Manager(s) as directed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contract planning:

    • Initial  team & stakeholder engagement, supporting document criteria, communication and presentations
    • Establish and maintain the contract folder structure for draft contracts and schedules
    • Track and compare changes and control contract and schedule revisions
    • Style and formatting for clean execution versions for circulation, prepare contracts for signature

  • Contract execution & obligations:

    • Establish and maintain the contract management folder structure relating to executed contracts

    • Day-to-day administration and monitoring of the EPC contract to facilitate compliance with notices, obligations and deliverables required from the juwi project team

    • Day-to-day administration and monitoring of major subcontractor & supplier contracts to facilitate subcontractor compliance with requirements therein

    • Assist in the drafting of approvals, certificates, consents, determinations, notices, requests and compile supporting documentation thereto for the Project Managers review and approval

    • Prepare contracts for signature by:

    • Organise signature by authorised signatory and/or Notary /Apostille requirements

    • Print hardcopies, sort, scan and compile for Project Library

    • Compilation, establishment and tracking of the EPC Contract and associated project documents (IA, PPA, DCUOSA, SBA, EIA, EMP, etc.) Hold Points register (List of Deliverables), as well as other major subcontract & supplier Hold Points

    • Maintain the communication channel procedures established between project key stakeholders (i.e. EPC PM, Client, Engineering, Construction)

    • Establish, populate, track and update the contractual communication registers, as well as maintain the electronic and hardcopy file index system

    • Compile and maintain templates for contractual letters, notifications and other deliverables in accordance with EPC, associate project documents and  Subcontracts

    • Ensure contract deliverables are received by the Client and/ or relevant stakeholders timeously

    • Ensure contract deliverables are obtained by Suppliers & Subcontractors timeously

    • Assist the project administrator in fulfilling the requirements for the compilation of monthly reports, and other approved forms

    • In conjunction with the Quality representative and the Contract Manager, establish and co-ordinate workshops related to contract obligation process descriptions (i.e. Control of Project Communications, Payment, Insurance claim processes)

    • Point of contact to advise and guide juwi project team on contractual implications, approved forms, any actions arising during execution, and escalate to Contract Manager depending on complexity

    • Establish, administer and maintain the insurance claim process and compile  templates as required

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Contract Management/ Administration qualification
  • Experience of working within a project, engineering and construction environment
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, at comparable level
  • Fluent in English
  • Demonstrable ability to work in matrix organizations and to operate in a culturally diverse international environment
  • An understanding of the requirements and implications of EPC projects
  • Conversant with contract management and standard/ proprietary contract forms
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, MS Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and organise effectively
  • Able to prioritise own workload and work independently under pressure

Solar PV Sales Engineer, Cape Town

Objectives

One of the Business Unit’s key objectives is to position juwi as the market leader in Southern Africa in the provision of EPC solutions to REIPP projects and portfolios of commercial and industrial customers.  The Sales Engineer play a key role in the evaluation of client needs and development of commercially and technically optimized EPC solutions.  The ideal candidate will also have an aptitude for the commercial aspects including identification of potential market segments, development of dedicated business models with associated customer offerings leading to co-ordination and preparation of high-quality sales offers and funded solutions. The role which reports to the Head of Sales.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Understand the evolving market opportunity including technology innovations, time-of-use pricing/tariff structures, regulatory environment, wheeling and other drivers for renewable energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers
  • Model and understand customer electricity demand, calculate blended solar tariffs.  Understand customer electricity needs in respect of price and security
  • Read and understand competitive bid documents
  • Prepare, model and price technical solutions based on solar PV and, in some cases, thermal and storage in addition for off-grid solutions.  This will use industry standard technical modelling and in-house cost models
  • Assist in acquisition and closing of PV Solar EPC project sales in Southern Africa by running cost models and drawing up professional proposals
  • Creation and presentation of budget proposal documents, costing and time schedules
  • Preparation of EPC project documentation for proposals
  • Reporting on the status of projects
  • Travelling within South Africa conducting on-site inspections, liaising with landowners, developers, clients, stakeholders and sub-contractors and to attend exhibitions, conferences and trade fairs
  • Provide support for the Procurement/Purchase department
  • Responsible for application and development of tools and reporting, (e.g. PV-database)
  • Development and constant broadening of juwi’s reputation in Renewable Energies across Southern Africa
  • Constant transfer of information – especially in regard to market and competitors – to all relevant interfaces
  • Strategy development in cooperation with the Head of Sales (project wise, market)

Qualifications, Experience

  • Engineering Degree (B.Eng) preferred, ideally Electrical Engineering but may consider other disciplines
  • Ability to run PVSYST/PVSol/Helioscope required
  • Experience with Homer would be an advantage
  • Experience with CRM/Formal Sales processes would be an advantage
  • Experience with costing models a strong advantage.  Understanding of the time-value of money is important.
  • Strong numeracy is required with an understanding of and ability to model, especially in Excel
  • Experience with EPC in the PV C&I or REIPP spaces

Operations and Maintenance Engineer, Cape Town

Objectives

The purpose of this role is to provide technical support to the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) team in South Africa, aiming at the safe, efficient and reliable of the PV plants and the technical excellence of the O&M function.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Operations and Maintenance Engineer will report functionally to the O&M Senior Engineer, in South Africa, while the line reporting will be to the Head of Operations and Maintenance-EMEA, based in Wörrstadt, Germany. 
  • Operations and Maintenance Engineering support for juwi PV plants in the South Africa, including:

    • Troubleshooting and planning of corrective actions in cases of complex events
    • Data consolidating and analysing (from remote monitoring systems and event lists), in order to establish trends and suggest pro-active measures
    • Drafting, reviewing and improving procedures and method statements for the preventive and corrective maintenance
    • Liaise between all internal stakeholders (O&M South Africa team, O&M team Wörrstadt, Control Room EMEA, Engineering team, Project Management, etc.)
    • Provide remote (phone, email) as well as on-site support and guidance to site technicians
    • Perform regular audits to all plants
    • Respond to technical questions or requests of juwi customers
    • Liaise with equipment or replacement parts suppliers and service subcontractors, mostly (but not limited to) regarding technical/specification issues
    • Provide technical input and support for audits carried out by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (this relates specifically to PV plants in South Africa)
    • Plan and implement technical improvements in the PV plants

  • Assist the O&M Senior Engineer in maintaining General Machinery Regulatory compliance of PV plants.
  • Support the process of onboarding new PV plants, either juwi built or 3rd party ones, in the existing O&M portfolio.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (BTech, BEng, MEng or similar)
  • Professional Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (Pr.Eng)
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) or has passed the examination on the Operational Health and Safety Act and the relevant regulations or is in process of doing so.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering (heavy current)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in power utility infrastructure project execution and/or operations and maintenance
  • Good technical understanding of PV plants and Substations
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience of managing Subcontractors, technical personnel, Clients and Utilities to stringent time and quality metrics
  • Conversant with construction, environmental and safety requirements and legislation
  • Conversant with the General Machinery Regulations
  • Conversant with the South African grid code, transmission network code, distribution network code, and the South African National Standards (SANS)
  • Fluent in English

Desirable attributes

  • Experience of working within the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme
  • Working experience in the EPC or O&M of PV plants
  • Working experience on Substations
  • Fluent in Afrikaans

Other

  • National (up to 25%) and international travel (up to 5%) will be required in line with business requirements
