Zone Supervisor

Objectives

As the Zone Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing the maintenance and operations activities of the Droogfontein plant, outside of Kimberly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure all maintenance and operation initiatives are carried out in conjunction with the company’s goals and objectives
  • Conduct all contract administration functions for work on site – including SHE obligations
  • Compile and submit reports to Juwi head office as well as to the client
  • Monitor the plant in coordination with the centralized Control Room
  • Carry out daily site inspections and oversee all daily site activities
  • Perform fault finding and diagnostics on all plant equipment
  • Ensure maintenance and repair on all plant equipment is carried out timeously and to the set schedules
  • Ensure the accurate and on time execution of all scheduled services
  • Conduct inspections and mini-audits to ensure the continuous compliance of the O&M on the site
  • Manage a team of Field Assistants
  • Perform stand-by during weekends and public holidays (based on a roster)

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • Qualified Electrician, trade tested or / S4/T3/N6 Diploma
  • N3 or higher qualification
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience in the construction, commissioning or O&M of utility scale PV plants will be considered a plus
  • Experience in working with central PV inverters and/or PV trackers will be considered a plus
  • ORHVS competency and certification will be considered a plus
  • Computer literate – MS Office
  • Good administrative skills
  • Prepared to work shifts/overtime when required
  • Physically fit and able to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans
  • Valid driver’s license

Project Development Manager

Objectives

As a Project Development Manager within juwi, you will be required to manage the various project development tasks from project site selection through to financial close.

Primary Responsibilities

Project management of multiple wind and solar projects in various stages of development, ensuring completion within budget and on schedule:

  • Assisting in the identification of project sites, particularly environmental sensitivities
  • Assisting with landowner negotiations
  • Establishment and management of the project budget
  • Assisting with general project design tasks including turbine, road and electrical layout
  • Management of the various project licensing tasks
  • Liaise with the statutory organisations that administer the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and any other legalisation that may impact on renewable energy development.
  • Assisting with procurement of construction commodities
  • Assisting with procurement of key components
  • Assisting with investor selection processes
  • Leading/Assisting in tender submissions
  • Recording and reporting of project progress as well as associated risks to senior management
  • Participate in project and programme reviews when required

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

  • A degree in Engineering, Business or Natural Science
  • Proven ability to speak and write fluently in English
  • High degree of project management experience within the renewable energy sector or in other industries facing similar challenges, such as infrastructure and construction
  • Possession of a valid, South Africa Code 08 driver’s license
  • Motivated, driven and ability to self-manage
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Proven ability to work within a small project development team
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Proven experience of successfully managing multiple projects within budget and on schedule

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in renewable energy project development 
  • Thorough understanding of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) Environmental Authorisation assessment process; ideally with respect to renewable energy projects
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in Afrikaans
  • Able to perform research, write articles and present to an audience

Other Requirements and Preferences

  • Willingness to travel to relevant project sites in Africa and juwi head office in Germany will be required in line with business requirements 
  • In addition to the duties mentioned above, the job holder is required to perform administrative duties related to a standard project management role
