juwi Group & juwi Vision
The juwi worldwide vision is for 100% renewable energy power generation. The juwi group plans to contribute to the South African renewable energy mix by developing reliable large scale wind and solar energy plants. By optimising these mature technologies, we hope to support the growing demand for clean energy production in South Africa whilst reducing the country’s carbon footprint.
juwi is one of the world’s leading enterprises in the renewable energy sector. Since 1996 juwi has been designing, building, financing and operating plants that harness renewable energy. The CEOs and founders Matthias Willenbacher and Fred Jung transformed the company from a two-person operation into a worldwide active group with over 1,800 employees in more than 15 countries and an annual revenue of approximately 1.1 billion Euro in 2012.
To date, juwi has installed more than 2,200 systems producing a total output of approximately 2,500 megawatts (MW) with a total investment value of more than 5 billion Euro since 1996. The company plays a leading role in the global wind and solar markets. Other activities include the areas of bio-energy.
Our annual Energy Output is approximately 4.5 billion kilowatt-hours which corresponds to the annual electricity demands of 1.8 million South African low-income households. This is an approximate annual reduction of 2.2 billion kg of CO2 emissions.
juwi is headquartered in Wörrstadt, Germany and operates internationally with subsidiaries in the United States/Canada, Italy, Spain, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Great Britain, Bulgaria, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand (Japan - joint venture), Chile, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
In July 2008, juwi constructed one of the world’s most energy-efficient office building at their headquarters in Germany. The new central building which was inaugurated in August 2012 is even more energy-efficient. juwi has received numerous awards for its commitment to renewable energy: the German Solar Award 2007; the German Climate Protection Award 2008; and in 2009 the Clean Tech Media Award, the Entrepreneur of the Year and the Greentech Manager Award. juwi is especially proud of the "Great Place to Work" seal of quality, received in 2010 and 2011.
